Bharat Tourist Home
Fondly called BTH by its patrons and loyal visitors, it is one of Cochin’s well-established hotels. Started in 1964 as an economy Udupi hotel, it grew its wings under the guidance of B. Govinda Rao. From a 30-room, 40-seater South Indian vegetarian restaurant and a conference hall, Bharat Hotel has now become an important business hotel in the city.
It is conveniently located in the heart of the city, quite close to the Ernakulam Junction railway station. Subhiksha is their AC restaurant that serves north Indian vegetarian cuisine. It serves three meals, accompanied by soothing Indian classical music in the background. BTH’s coffee shop, Kempu is open from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Located near the lobby, it’s the perfect place to enjoy an evening cuppa or a late night snack.
BTH offers 87 elegantly furnished guest rooms and executive suites spread over five floors. There are single and double occupancy rooms, suites and deluxe accommodation. It’s done up luxuriously, with bright colours to cheer you up. Whether on business or leisure, BTH has the right ambience for you.
If you want to organise a function, have a party or hold an event, the AC hall Samsar can accommodate up to 50 people. Telephone, projector, audio /video facilities, in-house secretarial service, public address system, etc. can be arranged on request. There’s also an auditorium that can seat 80 people. There’s an exhibition centre called Pradarshan on the ground floor.
An auditorium that can seat up to 400 people – Aangan – faces the Cochin harbour. It is best for medium-scale functions like receptions, festive celebrations and big parties. Sowbagh is a non-AC hall that can be used to short events. It can seat 250 members.
The hotel’s travel desk will take care of currency exchange, car rental, postal service and other travel requirements. There’s an internet café and a stationery shop on the ground floor. Sightseeing, boating and tour packages will also be arranged on request.
