Chendamangalam
Chendamangalam a small town located about 25 km from Cochin. At Chendamangalam, you can see a church, a temple, a mosque and the remains of a synagogue all lying within the bounds of the small village. The synagogue supposed to be built in the 10th century is now being preserved privately.
It was once the headquarters of the Paliath Achans, the prime ministers to the Maharajas of Kochi. The Paliam Palace stands in the great architectural magnificence of Kerala. The Palace houses a collection of historic documents and relics. The hillock of Kottayil Kovilakom provides an exceptional view of the church, temple and the synagogue together. Visitors are allowed till 3 p.m. Another important place of historical importance nearby is the Vypeen Kotta (Fort Vypeen) built by the Portuguese.
A true Kerala village in all senses, it provides a great experience of village life. A ride through the back waters is also fabulous. Chendamangalam is easily accessible by road. It is around 20km from the International Airport and 25km from centre of the city.
